During Ching Dynasty, Empress Dowager Cixi gave birth to a son and won the heart of Emperor Xianfeng. At that time, the country was in turmoil but Xianfeng still indulged in the pleasures of the court. Knowing that the united armies of British and France had deployed their battleships in Tianjin's Dagukou Harbor, Xianfeng took refuge in Reha temporary the Yuanming Palace. The foreign commanders ransacked and plundered the Yuaming Palace, and finally burnt down this "Palace of ALL Palaces."
